Hounds with TOPSoccer

The Greyhound Women's Soccer team got out of bed extra early last Saturday to train before heading over to the St. Francis Soccer Club fields for TOPSoccer! TOPSoccer is an outreach program that allows young athletes with mental or physical disabilities to learn and play soccer. Not only did we come together on Saturday morning to play "Sharks and Minnows", but several of the players came to cheer us on against Drury on Sunday! As Brea would say ... our Hound Pound increased by 10 that day. Here are some pictures from the event:

The whole group!
Tim was a ladies man ;)
Morgan, Tim, Michelle, and Dana took a break to smile for the camera :)

Coach Kiley came too!

There were a lot of hugs before everyone went home.

The Hounds plan to continue to volunteer with TOPSoccer in the Winter and Spring. To learn more about Indiana Youth TOPSoccer, click here!

Countdown to Senior Day - #24 Megan Grassly

Mini Meg :)
Position: Defense
Major: PE and Health Education
Minor: Special Education

How long have you been playing soccer?
Since I was on the "Spice Girls" at age 9 :)

What is your favorite memory from your four seasons as a Greyhound?
My favorite memories are watching people get taken down by the "turf monster." The best of these include Kiley, Shae (NKU game), and Brea!

What was your most embarrassing moment as a Hound?
Getting my legs stuck in a ring while doing fitness! I fell flat on my face!

What will you miss most about this team?
I will miss seeing my favorite people everyday! I can be in the worst mood and no matter what, I leave the field happy. Everyday there is someone on the team that can make you smile.

What are your plans after this season?
Start my student teaching and try not to become a fatty ;)

What advice do you have for future Greyhound Women's Soccer players?
As corny as it sounds, enjoy everyday! This will all go way too fast! Don't let drama or playing time get the best of you. At the end of the day, be happy and grateful for the "family" you have. They are the people that will make your 4 years!

Countdown to Senior Day - #21 Lauren Soza

Position: Center Mid
Major: Nursing

How long have you been playing soccer?
Since I was in the womb ... kidding! I was 4 years old when I started playing.

What is your favorite memory from your four seasons as a Greyhound?
My favorite memory as a Greyhound was my freshman year when we had a funky practice for Halloween and all dressed up in crazy costumes and played soccer in Smith Mall. We looked ridiculous!

Yes, Dana is wearing a clown suit and Libby is wearing a pig ...
What was your most embarrassing moment as a Hound?
I tend to ask really smart questions at dinner ... enough said.

What will you miss most about this team?
I will definitely miss our dance parties and jam sessions that happen anywhere and everywhere - locker room, bus, vans, restaurants, and hotel rooms!

What are your plans after this season?
After this season, I'd love to work at a children's hospital! I'm not sure what state I'll be in, but I'll go wherever life takes me. :)

What advice do you have for future Greyhound Women's Soccer players?
Never be afraid to be yourself! Funky personalities are what make our team so fun and unique.
p.s. These are the BEST years of your life! Live it up girlfriends!

Countdown to Senior Day - #8 Libby Anderl

Position: Defender
Major: Exercise Science, pre-PT

Suited up for the Green Pythons
in 1st grade!
How long have you been playing soccer?
I've been playing since kindergarten! My first team was the gray eagles.

What is your favorite memory from your four seasons as a Greyhound?
Every moment - the first lunch on move in day freshman year when we couldn't tell Dana and her sister apart, wacky tacky practice day, making the NCAA tournament, Brea and Duncan's rap-off, losing our voices at the Race for the Cure, hearing the boys sing for their gear ... I could keep going forever.

What was your most embarrassing moment as a Hound?
Being the sweatiest person on the team for 4 years! And missing the bus to Fort Wayne during the spring my freshman year because I slept through my alarm. Geoff called me Rip Van Winkle for a while after that.

What will you miss most about this team?
Written on Kiley's white board is "their team versus our family." What I will miss most is being a part of this family.

What are your plans after this season?
Hopefully I'll stay a Greyhound for 3 more years and attend Physical Therapy school at UIndy! There might be two super fans in the stands next fall ... :)

What advice do you have for future Greyhound Women's Soccer players?
1. Hug your parents and tell them you love them after every game.
2. Leave the field everyday with no regrets.
3. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't accomplish something. Hard work, perseverance, and patience can go a long way in achieving your goals.

What is your favorite memory from your four seasons as a Greyhound?
Making the NCAA tournament sophomore year and beating Quincy in overtime freshman year.

What was your most embarrassing moment as a Hound?
Junior year's season...

What will you miss most about this team?
I will miss spending time with the girls - the dinners, the bus rides, the times when we're just together. And Taylor Kelly.

What are your plans after this season?
Graduate in May then hopefully get a job doing sports media type stuff with a professional team!

What advice do you have for future Greyhound Women's Soccer players?
Don't feel privileged, be grateful. You're lucky to be where you are and to be surrounded by all these people who care for you.

Only Kellie can pull off moves like these!

Countdown to Senior Day - #1 Shae Morris

2011 Seniors
In honor of our 9 seniors, for the next 9 days leading up to our Senior Day match-up versus Drury, there will be a new blog post everyday featuring a different senior Greyhound!

#1 Shae Morris

Position: Goalkeeper
Major: Psychology

How long have you been playing soccer?
15 years, since first grade!

Lookin' fly in 1996

What is your favorite memory from your 4 seasons as a Greyhound?
Um ... this is an unfair question because I have a lot of good memories. But the one that stands out the most to me was my shutout last year against Wisconsin Parkside.

What was your most embarrassing moment as a Hound?
I woke up late three mornings in a row the first week of preseason my freshman year and held up the team for breakfast. The captains had to run across campus and knock on my door to wake me up. Personally, I think it takes a great amount of skill to sleep through my alarm three days in a row ... but that's just me. :)

What will you miss most about this team?
Free food, free clothes, etc. JUST KIDDING! I know this sounds cliche, but I am really going to miss all the girls. This team has been like a family to me for the past four years. It will be hard to adjust to not seeing everyone all the time.

What are your plans after this season?
I plan on graduating in May with a BA in Psychology and applying to PTA school here at UIndy in the spring of 2013.

What advice do you have for future Greyhound Women's Soccer players?
Come in fit. I'm not kidding. But also remember to appreciate the time you have with your teammates and the time you have playing the sport you love. You won't get this time back.
